There are a few control changes, such as dash on R2 instead of R1, but according to Konami things like that aren’t necessarily going to be the same in the final game. The interface has improved quite a bit, but it still plays much slower than FIFA. The demo features four teams (Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Barcelona) and includes cross-gen play, but not cross-play between PlayStation and Xbox formats. Players are advised to ignore the graphics and gameplay, or at least not complain about them, as they’re not necessarily indicative of the final game. Konami has offered little context for demo, warning that its sole purpose is to ‘check the quality of online matchmaking and connection to the servers’. That seems very wise given how stagnant some sports franchises can get (with the disaster of WWE Wrestling in the last few years being the worst example) but it’s still not clear exactly how different the new PES will be.

There famously wasn’t a new Pro Evolution Soccer game last year, just a minor update to the previous year’s version, with Konami admitting they needed a year off in order to make substantial changes to the formula, including starting to use Unreal Engine.
